Please join Minchin Center students and staff for dinner provided by renowned chef Erik Kelley, and a keynote address by Michael Matheson Miller, followed by a Q&A.
Michael Matheson Miller is Senior Research Fellow at the Acton Institute and the Director and Producer of the award-winning documentary, Poverty, Inc. Mr. Miller’s research explores the desire to do good in the fight against poverty with mixed and even catastrophic results. Leaders in the developing world are growing increasingly vocal in their calls for change. The current model of foreign aid, NGOs, private charity, and celebrity campaigns needs to be re-examined. Drawing on research and interviews in over 20 countries, Mr. Miller unearths an uncomfortable side of charity and the adverse effects of the “poverty industry.”
Minchin Center Director Don Boyce remarks, “Loving our neighbors locally and internationally is rooted in the Pacifica mission and in the sound philosophical and business principles that we are teaching our students. I am excited to have Mr. Miller join us on April 30.”
Chef Erik Kelley
Renowned chef and sommelier Erik Kelley and his staff will be providing dinner. Most days, he can be found at the Beverly Hills Cheese Store; at night, he’s usually cooking for a private group or a special event, or you might find him at his house eating something delicious he just whipped up on the stove. At one point, the youngest sommelier in America, Erik, brings a youthful while professional approach to food and wine. The dinner will be a treat.
